That's what voters in Berkley, Mich., were deciding Tuesday as they went to the polls to consider a measure that would return a nativity scene to the lawn outside their City Hall. Some residents of the town of more than 15,000 were outraged that the city and a local clergy association cut a deal with the American Civil Liberties Union to move a cr

I have mixed feelings about this, being an ex-Catholic I'm tired of seeing a baby Jesus ...we know that our Saviour did GROW UP and what a life ! Also if you read on it also says; "It's always had secular items, We have a Santa Claus, Christmas trees, banners on our poles. It's a city that looks like it's celebrating Christmas. We also had a Star of David." Now that I'm born-again I view things differently, and I want to be far away from the likes of a "Santa Claus" that's just my opinion. The courts at all levels have consistently ruled that it is unconstitutional to use the government and or its institutions to endorse or promote religious beliefs. By placing a Nativity Scene on taxpayer property, thats exactly what is being done. The reason why the ACLU consistently wins in cases like this is that they have the constitution on their side. If you ask me, instead of using this as some culture war whipping post, us Christians ought to put our nativity scenes on private property and we ought to be more concerned with the rampant materialism and commercialism of Christmas as that is what is really wrong in how society treats it. Then why is it ok to install footwashing stalls for Muslims in public schools? And at taxpayer expense?

"Happy Holidays" is a P.C. cop-out. There was a notice put up at my work last year that stated all employees were to refrain from saying 'Merry Christmas' so as not to offend the Muslims working there. Yet there were no restrictions against them yacking on and on about Ramadan. Also, the Muslims got to stop working during the times of prayer while other (non-muslim) employees had to cover their jobs until they were done! (The company finally ended that, thank goodness.) And if that wasn't bad enough, my company almost built a little mosque on company property for the Muslims to pray in during bad weather! (That one got shot down when Christian employees asked for a small chapel! ) THAT'S how bad it's getting! I don't even like Christmas any more. It's the ACLU's favorite time of the year! I don't even like Christmas any more. I wasn't going to post to this, but I see alot of frustration, which I have felt in the past. 12 years ago I was very burdened by alot of things done in the name of christianity especially christmas. It all came to a head when just prior to the christmas service begining at church a women( I hadn't seen before) turned around to my (at the time) 5 yo and asked.." what did Santa bring you this year". Well, that did it for me...I talked it over with my wife and after some silly compromises we have refrained from celebrating, what I call, the secular christmas. No trees, wreaths , lights, parties or non-religious cards. We honor the birth of Christ, watch christmas specials( if any are on TV) and just relax and enjoy the day. The last 12 "christmases have been exceedingly more joyful than all the prior ones. No stress, no rushing around, no quilt" oh I forgot to buy so and so a gift" or " oh I already have one of those", " are the decorations pretty enough, etc. etc. So I guess it could be said that we( me and the family)are protesting the secular christmas by boycotting it. The fact is, we were never told to celebrate christmas. No where in the bile are we commanded to celebrate the birth of our Lord. Maybe thats why the seculars have had such great success in creating all the diversions. Food for thought. Grace and Peace

True. But it's not forbidden either. At that point, "let your conscience be your guide." Glad you brought personal joy back into Christmas!
