This is my first shot at a poll, hopefully it will live up to your standards. I am just curious to see what scriptures people have to back thier beleifs on this. I've heard various schools of thought.

Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Ephesians 1:4-5 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Are you referring to the Book of Life or The Lamb's book of Life? They are 2 seperate books.

One who has received atonement from sin by the lamb of God that they might receive the Spirit of life, (ie born of God's spirit) has had their name written in the Book of life (also known as the Lamb's Book of life) from before the foundations of the earth.

The Greek translated as 'the foundation of the world' simply means 'the down-casting of the system.'

So our names were written there at 'the down-casting of the system.' An interesting turn of phrase!

I've always thought they were interchangable? Could you expand on your thoughts.

All believers are chosen of God since before the foundation of the world...so those names written there are those who believe in Jesus Christ, who of course ARE the chosen-by-God!

When you get saved

Only believers in Jesus

This is an interesting topic. It should spark an interesting debate concerning the teachings of Calvin.

This is what I used to think, but i can't find a reference that says are names are written in there once we get saved, or if they were always there and accepting Christ prevents your name from being blotted out.

Now I wonder if it is only the believers in Jesus Christ or many more, but only those that believe in Jesus stay in the book.

How do you reconcile the OT patriarchs that died before Christ? They are in the book of life, and were justified by faith.

This is an interesting topic.

Okay from that translation, what system do you think it is referring to? The order brought to the earth in Gen. 1, or that of the new covenant?

"....before the foundation of the world..." And in the Greek, this phrase means "ahead of the down-casting of the system......."

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
