"how does one develop the fruits of the spirit? "

                        Abide in Jesus;

"Abide in me, and I in you.
 As the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine;
no more can ye, except ye abide in me"   Jn, 15

Abide, Strong's G3306....     to remain, abide   (In Christ)

in reference to place; to sojourn, tarry, not to depart to continue to be present,  to be held, kept, continually

in reference to time; to continue to be, not to perish, to last, endure, of persons, to survive, live

in reference to state or condition; to remain as one, not to become another or different to wait for, await one

In the Bible, the word fruit is used to describe the person's outward

actions that result from the condition of the heart. Good fruit is

produced by the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us what we must do to

bear good fruit. He said " Abide in me, and I in you". We need

to have a daily relationship with Jesus Christ.

Might help to first figure out what your greatest spiritual Gift is. Paul lists them in Romans 12:6-8 as Prophecy, Servitude, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Organization and Mercy.

Hi FoEighty!

Correct me if I'm mistaken but it seems to me that you may be confusing Spiritual " Gifts" with Fruit of the Spirit....they are not the same thing,if you were asking " How do I develop my Gifts" or ask about focusing on 1 I'd understand that question and try to help you to focus on the Purpose of your Calling

The Fruit of the Spirit is not a " thing " to try to achieve, with effort or even focus to develop..... your focus should always be on the Cross- Peter walked on water becsuse he wanted to be with Jesus,he set his sights on Christ in the distance and leaped out of the boat to meet Him...

If you love gardening you plant seeds, you make sure to put them where there is light, you tend to that plant, spend time in the garden watering it and giving it nutrients so it takes root and grows

So what actually did the plant do? Nothing! The plant yields to the Light, the Light is in it,it was planted in good soil and so it grows because you gave it everything it needs to grow into a mature plant and then it flowers- it bears fruit

That's us-Jesus Abides in us and we are the good soil in which a Seed was Sown,we simply take in the Light, eat and drink the Word to Grow,Mature and by no effort on our part- bear Fruit   it is Him in us that produces Fruit

So what is that Fruit?

Galatians 5:22-26 Love,Joy,Peace,Patience,Kindness,Goodness,Faithfulness,Gentleness & Self Control

Walking in Spirit and in Truth, setting your sights on Jesus, the desire to be with Him and spend time with Him ,take captive all your thoughts & subject them to the Obedience of Christ Jesus,Relationship..... and all these attributes will be seen in your daily life- the Life More Abundant !

With love in Christ,Kwik

A tree doesn't have to "do" anything to bear fruit. The type and quality of fruit manifests as an outworking of the inner health of the tree.

BornAgain490 posted an excellent scripture, and I've often felt like Philippians 4:8 is a good compliment to Romans 12:2. " Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Renewing your mind might sound mystical because of the wording, but it's not. Paired together those two verses remind us to take in things that draw our thoughts to God. So as others here have pointed out reading the Bible and developing your relationship with God help, but so does your environment, and that's not always something we can help.

I feel similarly about the fruit of the spirit and that some make it sound more complicated than it is, but it's really just developing and demonstrating Christlike qualities. So far as that goes my recommendation is to just do it, especially if you have to go out of your way a little. It may well seem forced for a good while but it gets easier, and IMO is a demonstration of faith and works. Going from the flesh's perspective there's little to no reason to care about anyone beyond yourself and those closest to you. There's little to no reason to be charitable or self sacrificing or give of your time and energy when there's no benefit to yourself. But when you do you're stating through your actions that you believe in God and want to please Him.

A recent thread pointed out the Jesus said to take up our cross and follow Him, with the Luke account presenting the word daily. It's a daily effort, and people at the time surely understood that carrying your cross meant you were on your way to die after having been subjected to the abuses of Roman soldiers. The statement Jesus made there really does illustrate that it's a struggle.

Galatians 5 has indeed the Fruit of the Spirit passage......

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
