Lots of Bible verses tell us to not worry about the future as God has a plan for all of us or is looking out for us. aka faith.

Yet I have a difficult time having faith in God as I have encountered too many disappointments, dead ends and broken promises.

how do you persevere and stop worrying about the future when in today’s world it is so easy to pursue the wrong career, date the wrong person, or trust the wrong people?

And yet you are here asking advice on a Christian forum so this means you have not given up on God, Helpmd.

Have you read the Book of Acts lately? Wherever Paul went there was trouble of some sort. In 2 Cor 12 he describes a thorn in the flesh that wouldn't leave him alone, but instead of God taking it away he told Paul that His grace was enough to deal with the problem.

2Co 12:9-10  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  (10)  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Here's a song I wrote to highlight the Scriptural truth that adversity builds character (ABC) and promotes spiritual growth :

COUNT IT ALL JOY

Intro:

(Bb) Count it all joy, (C) Count it all joy,

(A) Count it all (G) joy, (A) Oh (G) Count (F) it all joy.

(Bb) Count it all joy, (C) Count it all joy,

(C) When you (A) face frequent (G) trib- (A) u- (C) lat- (Bb) ions.

Verse 1:

(F) When you’re (Bb) feeling so sad, (Bb) And what’s (C) happening is (A) bad,

(A) Count it all (G) joy, (A) Oh (G) Count (F) it all joy.

(F) When your (Bb) enemies throng, (Bb) And they (C) do you great (A) wrong,

(A) Count it all (G) joy, (A) Oh (G) Count (F) it all joy.

(Bb)Count it all joy, Oh (C) Count it all joy,

(C)When you (A) face frequent (G) trib- (A) u- (C) lat- (Bb) ions.

Verse 2:

When you have enough pain, to be driven insane,

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

When no help has arrived, and it seems you’re deprived,

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy, when you face frequent tribulations.

Verse 3:

When your life becomes tough, and the going gets rough,

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

Stay safe in God’s grace, and keep walking by faith,

And Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

Yes, Count it all joy. Yes, Count it all joy, when you face frequent tribulations.

Verse 4:

When you’re tested for faults, make sure patience results,

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

As you character build, with God’s Spirit be filled,

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy.

Count it all joy, Oh Count it all joy, when you face frequent tribulations.

I have to wonder about the phrase you used: "Broken promises." Are you saying God breaks his promises? I don't think he does. I have the same problem as you, but I would not go so far as to say the Lord ever breaks his promises. He doesn't make it as easy as I'd like it to be, but I can think of no promises he's broken.

I think the answer to a lot of problems people have, including yours and mine, is to remember something the Apostle Paul taught us: Pray constantly (1 Thessalonians 5:17). When we are contantly conversing with the Lord, he leads us to peace and fulfillment.

No I mean people. People who knowingly or unknowingly use you for their own benefit. They can’t reward you now but they promise something great.

Yes, people can let us down.

I think in our journey as Christians, failure and mistakes are inevitable. But to answer your question... How can we persevere and not worry?

I think it all comes to TRUSTing in God. Trust that He holds your future. And that as Matthew 6 would say, do not worry about tomorrow, for today has enough trouble on its own.

We must also hold on to His Word. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105 .... This means, the Bible helps us with what next step we must take. The specific outline of our life isn't given, but the Bible is clear of what we can do at the moment. It's to love Him and love others. When deciding on something, we ask help from wise and godly people in our life (as said in Proverbs).

To be honest, I can't say I don't have worries right now. But I try to always bring it to God, and trust Him at His word. I often do admit to Him of my daily worries. Your question actually made me reflect again. But God reminded me of His Word.

Prayed for you!

Wow... that's a tough one.   For dating the wrong people, I simply don't date.  I've decided to remain single.

For trusting the wrong people.... I just assume that at some point, people will betray me.  And usually I find that to be a pretty accurate way to live.

Worrying about the future.... I don't really have any advice on that, simply because I just don't care?

In order to be disappointed, you have to care.   When you don't, it's impossible to be disappointed.

Why worry?  What for?  Is there anything in this world worth caring about?  What is it?  Where is this thing worth caring about?

My hope is in Heaven.  Nothing here is worth any time to worry about.

That's not helpful at all, is it?   Yeah, I don't know what to tell you.  I just have never cared much, because I kind of knew this life would suck since about high school.

Thank you. While failures are inevitable it’s just sad that people who have had things fallen into place sooner in their lives yield more respect from others than those who are struggling and constantly hitting dead ends, at least in the US.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
