When God allowed Satan to destroy Job's life, in verse 16 it says that fire of God fell from the heavens and burned Job's sheep and servants. My question is since God send Satan to destroy Job's belongings, wasn't it fire that came from Satan and not from God, and the ones who saw this fire come down thought it was from God since it came from heaven? Also what kind of fire do you think it was, lightning... lazer beams?

12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

13 One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

I think it was simply lightning, which has often been described as God's "fire." And the "heaven" aspect being the first heaven, or the earth's atmosphere. The man was simply describing what he had seen in his own words.

Satan can use the weather for his purposes. After all, he is the "prince and power of the air."

The word used for "fire" in the Hebrew is "aysh" and is the word for fire.  "Lightning" is used elsewhere in Job and is a different Hebrew word.   The text doesn't tell us that the fire came from God.   The text is simply recording the messenger's words.  The messenger interpreted the fire as the "fire of God" since it fell from above.  The messenger is unaware the fire came from Satan.  Satan is able to make fire come down from the natural heavens.   The Bible itself is not claiming the fire is from God; rather, it is inerrantly recording the words of the messenger and how he interpreted the event.

I agree, I think the tragedies visited on Job clearly came from Satan, and what we see in that verse is a human perspective of the events, absent the knowledge of what was transpiring in heaven.

Thank you. Now I need to search how many times fire from heaven is described in the Bible to see who it came from.

When God allowed Satan to destroy Job's life,

in verse 16 it says that fire of God fell from the heavens and burned Job's sheep and servants.

Job 1:16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” (NIV)

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

and said:“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,and naked I will depart.

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;

may the name of the Lord be praised.”

In all this, Job did not sin

by charging God with

wrongdoing. Job 1:20-22 (NIV)

Please note that these were the words of the messenger, who had absolutely no idea about what was taking place in the heavenlies (that God had given Satan limited permission to destroy Job).

We need not speculate about the nature of this fire, since we read in Scripture of supernatural fire coming down from heaven many times.  This was definitely not a natural phenomenon, but a Satanic counterfeit of God's fire from heaven (the atmospheric heaven).  That Satan can make this happen is clear from Rev 13:13:  "And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men...".

The ancient term for lightning had the meaning of fire from heaven. Which is part of nature which God has created and uses, so it is called the fire of God out of heaven, and as said by previous posters, Satan has learned how to manipulate nature to some extent and is responsible for many natural disasters such a tornadoes and lightning.

I believe in this case it was fire and not lightning as Shiloh mentioned: "The word used for "fire" in the Hebrew is "aysh" and is the word for fire.  "Lightning" is used elsewhere in Job and is a different Hebrew word."

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
