Defense Secretary Leon Panetta

In a speech before business executives in New York, Panetta revealed that cyber intruders have already gained access to some of America's critical control systems that run chemical, electric and water systems with the intent to "cause panic, destruction and loss of life.

Panetta : We cannot let that happen again," Panetta warned. "This is a pre-9/11 moment. The attackers are plotting."

Where is the security in those private areas ? How can they get in to those systems ...I would like to know ?

I guess they can get in by hacking into the systems ...computers controls .

Just like hackers, that can hack into a bank and peoples accounts.

Where is the U.S. security with all this.

That is the world of computers. There are some who spend hours just trying to break a certain security function, not the whole system, just one function. They then share this with others. Another does the same with a different function. As they gather their results, the system becomes vulnerable. This has been an underground movement since computer security was developed.

I'm still wondering what kind of "crisis" is coming either just before or perhaps after the elections . . . I don't trust those in power to leave peacefully if voted out this fall. The whole "cyberterror" thing could be used for this very easily. I'm not saying that the problems don't exist because they do in some areas.

They do as much as they can to protect us everyday of the week 24 hours a day.

Family members work for the Fed's in this department and it seems like there is an attack either blocked or a new one ID'ed every half hour or so. These types of code breaking things can be targeted to effect all types of machine languages that operate all machines, anything that uses PLC control systems. Water, Lights, Gas, Nuke, banks, the works. China and N. Korea are the biggest up here in the Northern Part of the USA. Oil shipping areas have been attacked, but, individual non-connect PLC's control major transfer stations with-in the state. ~~~(PLC=programmable logic controllers )

The only way to really be about 98% safe is to have all plants taken off the Web and run hard wire lines to all control systems out there, and hope no one taps the hard wired lines.

This is not a New danger, they have been attacking us for a very long time.

I know it was in the news this week, the real fact is they have been doing it for years, some people tend to fly off the handle and think things are worse than they really are. Relax....this to shall pass. We have some pretty smart people doing their jobs.
