it is just like eating sacrificial meat. To some it was a sin, to others it was not.

Kurt, you could apply that to any sin, that doesn't make it right. How about we agree to disagree! I love you and KitKat and I don't want to get into an argument!

Well Debbie, I don't want to get into an argument either. That wasn't what my intentions were. You misread me if you believe that. Sorry if you misread me.

No, I know you didn't want to get in an argument! I was just trying to lighten the mood! :b:

Are you sure? You wouldn't lie to me now, would ya? I thought the mood was light. :lightbulb:

Love ya,

Kat

Re: Rahab

Not only did He not condemn this woman, He spared her, she prospered (and she is one of only two women listed among the heros of faith in Hebrews 11).

With all due respect a lie is a lie.

A lie is a lie, is a lie, is a lie.

Not true, GMan. We have to understand what God meant when He wrote in Scripture about lying. When that was written - were the Christians dealing with receiving a gift they didn't like? Or the husbands being asked if their wives looked fat in a certain dress? No.

I would like to see your opinion in light of the excellent stuff that Tess has offered.

I really don't believe that God intended His people to get all hung up and guilt ridden and spend needless time pondering over how we should deal with gifts we don't like. There's a saying - "don't sweat the little stuff". JMO.

it seems to be the 'little stuff' that has created the greatest amount of diverse opinions.... :)

ABSOLUTELY Senerhu!!!!!!!!

Hum.. it amazes me how long this has gone on for..

'Well what if!'

'Its still a lie!'

'But what if..!'

'its still a lie!'

If you have a chance to save somones life, and you do nothing, Id consider you just as accountable for that persons life as the one who murdered them.

I doubt God would send you to hell because you lied and saved a persons life.. or 500 peoples lives or 50000 peoples lives.

You can ask for forgiveness but you cant give somone a life back after they are dead...

You can throw it back and forth all you want, and say what you would do in whatever situation that you are sure you will never be in, but if you ever ARE in that situation, you will have this to think back on, and you will have a choice.

Do you lie or not.. if you are the last defense for somones life and you let them die, you may as well have killed them yourself.

Another thing came to me. I am certain that everyone on this earth that is capable of lying has lied. That makes us all liars, and im sure many people will lie again at some point.

Jesus died so that our lies and other sins could be forgiven.. but it seems that in hypothetical situations where deception could be helpful and prevent disaster, some are most adamant about NOT lying instead of adding one more lie to the collection of lies that they already have which can all be forgiven...

Telling one less lie doesnt make you any better when you already have lied.

Sorry, but I find it strange.

I decided to expand on this further...

Lets create a fictional character to illustrate it.

Lets say.. Bob.

Bob lied and said he liked his wifes cookies when he actually didnt like them.

Bob lied to his friend and said thier necktie looked great when he really thought it was ugly.

Bob called in sick when he really just wanted a day off.

A young black man being chased by racists runs through Bobs construction yard where he works, where the racists lose him.. Bob hides the young man somwhere. The racists come to ask Bob where the man went, but Bob decieds to go back on the good thing he just did and tell them the truth, and the young man is beaten to death. Or maybe.. Bob says nothing and they figure he knows something so they beat Bob up and find the young man anyway.

In either case, after all the petty, meaningless lies Bob told, he decides to stand up and 'be a good honest man' and somone loses thier life because of it. But he is still a liar... and a man is also now dead.

After reading all these posts, I have a question. I do believe that telling a little white lie is sin and that you shouldn't lie at all, but what if you are at a family gathering at Christmas and you exchange gifts and one or many of the gifts you receive from family members is something you don't like, how do you go about handling that situation, when the whole family is gathered around watching gifts being opened? With the family members being gathered around, when you open each gift, you are put on the spot as to how you react to each gift you receive, because you have so many observers. So how do you keep from embarassing someone in that situation that gave you a gift you don't like, without saying something that could be a little white lie, in order to show good manners?

Kat

You accept is with graditude.....

it is not the gift that matters.....

it is the meaning or the thought behind the gift that is what matters....

that the person presenting it loves you enough to present you with a gift that they thought you might like.....

accept it, and thank them..... you dont have to lie about it,

you can even say:

***********

it is something that you never expected.....

***********

that is not saying you like it or dont.... and if you were not expecting it, then that also would not be a lie.... be loving towards them, and accept the gift.....

accepting it dont mean you ahve to use it.....

if you need to respond to each gift, lump the gifts together under a blanket statement:

*******************

they are such wonderful gifts, and the most precious gift is that we are all able to be here to share this time together, to share our love for each other and that to me is the most wonderful gift given this day......

*******************

we have to keep in mind, what is pleasing to God..... not us..... if we are more concerned about what man says or thinks, and not what God desires, then we are not pleasing God,

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
