Images, and weither they should be used in The Church is a matter of great debate.
I thought a great topic for discussion is are images permitted for use in worship like icons of Eastern Orthodoxy or as mere artwork for decoration, or are they forbidden altogether?
There are three basic groups or schools of thought:
Anionism: Rejects using art in worship or worshipping an image (veneration), but its alright to have art for decoration and to depict scenes of faith for inspiration. This can vary in degree of hardly any art, no art, or a lot of art.
Iconodulism: Those who believe icons and sacred art should be used in worship, prayer, and can represent the Godhead and saints; i.e. pray in front of a Jesus painting is praying to Jesus. Iconodules believe Images are essential for services and religious rites.
Iconoclasm: Images of any kind are forbidden, “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up [any] imageof stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I [am] the LORD your God.,” (Leviticus 26:1) , and should be torn down by force if possible.
