And that gives people to question my worldview??? I am sick and tired of having my faith questioned because I think differently. I didn't question your Faith. I'm asking what your worldview is. You're the one who appears to be defensive. I would also like for you to explain to me how it is Biblical with scriptural support to feed yourself falsehoods. Care to comment on the link George provided? At the end of last year I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol. The Doctor told me that I needed to eat more natural foods and fruit and nuts. I was to cut out red meat and eat more fish. I was also to lay off the salt. I was feeling terrible for the first time in my life. I had gotten off track wasn't eating right and wasn't exercising. However, I listened to what the Doctor said. I cut out red meat, I cut out salt, and caffeine, and I have been eating more natural foods while exercising regularly, I feel Great again, but according to you the Doctor was all wrong. I should just eat what I feel like and cut out all the exercise because I will likely die anyway. Is that true? P.S. No one has questioned your Faith what has been asked is what your worldview is. Mine is Judeo/Christian and lines up with what God's revealed will is for Israel. All sources of news offer falsehoods in one manner or another. Knowing this gives us 3 choices... We can ignore them all and be ignorant to what is happening in the world We can just choose those sources that feed us what we want to hear Or we can go to various sources from all perspectives and try and glean the truth. To me one and two are unacceptable, which only leaves 3. Based on your post on this forum you have chosen 2. To stick with your analogy you would have ignored all the doctors but the one that told you what you already believed to be true. P.S. Yes you did, you just choose to do it in a cowardly passive aggressive manner

And still this will never get classified as a hate crime or racist incident.... Such a double standard

And it shouldn't. The Lord made us each a unique individual; if He didn't want differences among us He would not have made us this way. You are right it should not, but we all see it every day. Just this morning I had my worldview questioned because of a source of current event news I choose to use. -
Political ideology is just part of one's world view, so all the news agencies are biased towards a worldview. Al Jazeera is a news source just like the one's I have mentioned. reading their site is no more and no less sinful than reading MSNBC or FoxNews or even the Christian favorite of WND. The top story for them today is the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria. They have a great story about the Xilai trial going on in China, something that is hard to find out much about from the US media They also have a story about the NSA wiretapping that reads like it was written by FoxNews. and finally there is an OpEd piece about cities subsidizing sports teams and whether they gain from it, tied into Detroit and the Red Wings. I realize that for many people all they want is one side of every story, the side they agree with, which is why FoxNews is so popular. But I like to get all side of the story. Proverbs 18:17 tells us "The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him." sadly, fear of what they might find keeps too many people from looking at all sides. The Word also tells us; Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Watch what you want. I agree that your worldview will dictate what you trend towards. What's your worldview? Mine is Judeo/Christianity. Since I know that this is the Truth I don't need to learn from others. If you want to examine it I don't see a problem with it. However, offering it as an alternative and equivocating is blindly insane. Well that did not take long at all, the last refuge for the insecure....question the faith of those who dare to think differently. My worldview is the same as yours...but I realize the Bible does not contain information about current events in the world. Thus if I wish to know what is happening in the world I will need to turn to other resources. My faith is not so weak that I am forced to rely on the sheep food given out by many news outlets, I can read all sides of the story and use them to try and filter out what is really going on. I realize not everyone is in the same place in the strength of their faith so I do understand why some would fear this sort of thing

All news sources play such games and you have to take this into account when watching, listening or reading any source. So you would state that they have no bias whatsoever that is largely slated towards Islam and the support of it's worldwide dominance? Islam is more than a Religion, it is a Political Ideology. I don't think it's in the best interest of the Nation to not expose it for what it is which is a tool of the Wahabbist's. Where did I say they had no bias? are you serious? Yes they have a bias, as does every news agency. FoxNews is biased towards the Republican party. MSNBC is biased towards the Dem party. The BBC is biased Every body is biased, as long as you know this going in then you can weed through it. It is good to get information from all sides as it helps to complete the picture

Science and creationism vs Evolution theory and myth
JDavis replied to MarkNigro's topic in Science and Faith
and on this we can agree. But sadly not all do. I have never gotten that impression of you. But you have also never questioned the salvation or even love for the Lord because you do not agree with someone. I believe that an old earth is the best fit for both scientific data and the scriptures. I was once an YECer, but over time have changed my view as I looked closer at both the science and the scriptures. The most influential person on this journey was my mothers husband (they were married after I was an adult so I it hard to consider him my step-father). He was (now retired) a Protozoologist and much of my understanding of current science came from him. We used to do long runs together (10-15 miles) and our discussions one day came around to the age of the earth because of a comment I made. After that for the next year or more he explained his view of both science and the scripture and how they could mesh. To this day I have not found any compelling evidence for a young earth from a scientific point of view. I fully understand that the scriptures can be taken that way, but I do not feel they require it. -

I find it sad you cant have discussions just for the sake of exchanging ideas and information without the agenda to make people think like you do. It is ok if we don't all think alike, it is what makes the world interesting. -

Neil there are many other threads on the forums. Not everyone here is an evolutionist brother. Honestly, the Holy Spirit is the guide of the Believer. So perhaps praying that God would open people's eyes to the truth would be the best thing? God bless, GE Thank You GE, thank you very much.. I feel like people are questioning my faith just because I disagree with one little thing. Sadly it happens a lot on here. -
Science and creationism vs Evolution theory and myth
JDavis replied to MarkNigro's topic in Science and Faith
and here is the crux of the matter. In order not to agree with atheist you choose to stop using your brain and ignore evidence. I will tell you I agree with atheist all the time. I work as a statistician and the theorems that are essential for my craft to exist are shared between believers and atheist alike. I guess I should disregard the central limit theorem or the law of total variance because atheist agree with those too. Sorry, I will not check my brain at the door. this was a mistake, good day Do you mean to say that athiests have difinitively answered the question to life, the universe and everything or are you simply saying athiests can be right some of the time? They can also be wrong some of the time. For instance, the big bang...this theory is incredibly flawed and time and time again creationists have proven this. The big bang has never, since it's first inception, held up under scrunity. When you start inventing things like dark matter and anti matter to rescue a dead theory, that is checking your brain at the door. I meant that just because an atheist believes something does not mean we should not. For some Christians it is a badge of honor to disagree with everything I disagree with your view of the Big Bang, I think ithas been well supported and points to a creator -

Ninevite, You bring up a great point, what is the goal of people in these forums... I love the discussions and learning how other people think, but i am not here to change anyone's mind and not really here to have a fundamental paradigm shift in my views. Why can't we share our views and reasons why we hold them without trying to change people? -
For those that believe in the Big Bang, what was there before?
JDavis replied to MarkNigro's topic in Science and Faith
Good grief. Distant star light does not remain a problem for both camps. It only remains a problem for young earth 'theorists' who begin with the assumption that the universe must conform to the idea of a 6000 yr old earth. He's twisting the science horrifically. I think the issue for the Big Bang camp is that the universe is larger than the observable universe. To get around that issue Inflation theory had to be added to the original Big Bang theory. Is that something that you can address? BTW, The issue of starlight is just a religious assumption and not a problem for 6000 year old universe. Could you explain a bit more what you mean by this "problem" and why it is a problem. Thanks -

Among Christians, White Mainline Protestants Least Believe Abortion
JDavis replied to nebula's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps instead of constantly not dealing with this issue by attempting to deflect blame from the actual culprits, you could actually just speak out against abortion clearly without attempting to generalize it and attempt to make it relative to something else. my response was a direct response to a post about if Christians have failed to act. I think that they have because they have tied too much to one political party instead of focusing on souls. I have told you multiple times in the past I am vehemently against abortion, but what really comes of that on a Christian forum? how does that help to solve the problem of abortion? I am sure it makes us all feel good about ourselves, but it does not really address the problem does it. I am sorry that I dared to speak ill of your chosen political party, but they are part of the problem not the solution. The sooner that Christians realize that, the better off we will be. -
What kind of God would have used evolution over billions of years
JDavis replied to MarkNigro's topic in Science and Faith
The fact that people can be mistaken does not follow from "God does not lie" so that is not really an option, unless you can lead me through the connection between "people are mistaken" and "God does not lie". Since you are surmising something that is not true and cannot prove it, please stop. That is what I am asking you to do, and you will not do so. -

I am not sure I could disagree more. I do not come here to have Google battles, I come here to have interactions with people and get their insights into what they believe and why. I don't really care if someone can point me to Google, I can Google "unicorns are real" and come up with 100 sites that will "prove" that unicorns are real. Honestly I want to know the people I am spending my time talking with have some idea of what they are talking about. Take Gerald McGrew for example, him and I do not agree on much of anything, but he knows his stuff when it comes to evolution and why he believes it. He can talk the talk as well as point people to Google. I respect him for this. Neil has come on here putting people down and making bold claims, I have as yet to see him actually support one of these claims outside of him telling people to Google certain phrase. I would like to hear in his own words for a change. -

so, you openly admit nobody has claimed that God lied, yet more than a dozen time you have stated that God does not lie in response to people. There can only be two reasons for this, either you are trying to create a strawman to knock down or you are trying to imply that people think God lied. So, which is it? -
What kind of God would have used evolution over billions of years
JDavis replied to MarkNigro's topic in Science and Faith
You keep repeating this statement, yet nobody is claiming that God lied. By repeating this over and over again you are either not reading what people posting or you are making false accusations.... Which is it? I am saying that they are mistaken if they believe that it took more than 6 days. I am reading what people are posting. I do not respond to them all. I am not making false accusations. "God does not lie" does not equate well to "i think you are mistaken". the former puts people on the defensive and does not help the discussion. Those of us who read these verses differently than you are not saying that God lied; we just think you are mistaken in your view. Actually God does not lie does equate to you are mistaken. In a discussion some will take offense just because someone disagrees with them. No, it does not equate at all. What it does is imply we think God is lying, which you know to be a lie. So, while God does not lie it seems that Mark does Imply is what is in your mind, not in what I typed at all. Let me ask you this...who here has said that God lied? -

So be it. I "googled it" for you. http://www.gps.gov/governance/advisory/members/hatch/ I already googled it and read about him and his book. Let me ask you this, in what way does telling someone to Google something offer any insight into if the person has any knowledge at all about a subject? Telling someone to google something without adding your own two thoughts and words is either a lazy way out or a sign that someone has no real clue what they are speaking of. I have not seen enough from Neil to make up my mind which it is yet
